Kemp Smith Ranked as a Top Labor & Employment Law Firm in Texas
Kemp Smith has been ranked as one of the top labor and employment law firms in Texas by Chambers USA. Chambers and Partners is an international organization that provides research based independent rankings and commentary on the top law firms and lawyers in 175 countries.
Kemp Smith is one of only 16 law firms in Texas and is the only law firm in West Texas that made the Chambers USA 2009 rankings for labor and employment law. In addition, Chambers ranked partners Charles C. High, Jr. and C. B. Burns as tops in the field of labor and employment law. Of the more than 2000 lawyers practicing labor and employment law in Texas, Chambers USA 2009 only included 46 in its rankings. Mr. High was ranked in the top 7.
The Chambers listing states: This is the second oldest firm in the state and without doubt the premier player in the El Paso market. Led by Charles High and CB Burns, who “would succeed in any market they chose to focus on,” the team divides its time between employment litigation, traditional labor relations work and management counseling; it also handles a significant amount of local El Paso counsel work for bigger, out-of-state firms. High is “a superb lawyer whom you can’t help but respect,” report sources, while Burns is “someone we always hugely enjoy working with,” say interviewees.

On the basis of this research, they identify the world's top lawyers. The qualities on which rankings are assessed include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by the client. Editorial comment is based on Chambers’ research, with quotations used when they sum up the prevailing opinion in the market. The rankings and editorial comment about attorneys are independent and objective. Inclusion in this section of the guide is based solely on the research team's findings. No-one can buy their way in.
