Charles C. High, Jr. is a partner in the Labor and Employment Law Department of Kemp Smith. Mr. High represents employers exclusively in all aspects of labor and employment law, including wrongful discharge, the development of employment policies and practices to reduce the risk of litigation, employee handbooks, wage and hours issues, discrimination claims based on sex, race, national origin, disability, sexual harassment, retaliation, workers’ compensation retaliation claims, reasonable accommodation under the ADA, employer and employee rights under FMLA, defamation, privacy, maintaining nonunion status, union organizing campaigns, union contract negotiations, EEOC, MSHA, OSHA, and affirmative action obligations.
Mr. High is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He has consistently been listed in Best Lawyers in America and in 2007 was recognized as a “Super Lawyer,” one of the top 100 “Texas Super Lawyers,” and a top-50 “Super Lawyer” in the Central and West Texas Region. That same year, Texas Lawyer’s 2007 Go-To Guide listed Mr. High as one of the top five lawyers in Texas in the area of labor and employment law. Chambers USA 2008 also ranks Mr. High in the No. 1 Group of lawyers in Texas. In addition, he is past Chair of the Texas State Bar Labor and Employment Law Section.

Professional and Civic Involvement
Mr. High is dedicated to the progress of education and employment in the El Paso community. He currently serves in key leadership roles at the Upper Rio Grande Workforce Development Board of Directors and on its Oversight and Evaluation Committee. He is also active in the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce where he is the past Chair of the Workforce & Education Division and Education Committee. Mr. High is author of numerous articles in employment law trade publications, and is a frequent speaker on labor and employment law issues.
