Professional & Civic Involvement

Mr. Smith served as President of the El Paso Bar Association in 1971-1972 and has served on the Boards of Directors of the El Paso Electric Company, MBank of El Paso, Property Trust of America, Petro, and The Leavell Company. He has also served on the Boards of Trustees of Hervey Foundation and Lydia Patterson Institute. Mr. Smith has been active in many community organizations, most notably the United Way of El Paso. He was elected Outstanding Young Man of El Paso by the Jaycees and received the Humanitarian Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews; he is an Advisory Director of the latter. He was a member and past Chairman of the UT El Paso Board of Development and is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation. Mr. Smith was listed in Best Lawyers in America for corporate and banking law.
