Terry W. Hammond is a partner in the firm’s Business Department with primary practice areas in guardianship, adult and asset protection, estate planning, and probate law. Terry’s experience includes assisting families and professionals challenged with diminishment of mental and physical capacity at home and in the business setting. He has extensive experience in preventing abuse, neglect and exploitation and has worked on numerous high-profile cases in El Paso County and statewide since 1993. His work has been reported in the Associated Press, New York Times, Dallas Morning News, and El Paso Times among other publications. Terry is a former Executive Director of the National Guardianship Association and Texas Guardianship Association, has testified on guardianship issues at numerous Congressional hearings in Washington, D.C., Texas and Austin, and has been retained to improve guardianship and probate dockets by Texas court systems. Terry frequently collaborates with fiduciaries, trustees, financial institutions, care providers, hospitals and the courts to achieve optimal desired outcomes.
A native of Brazos County, Texas, Terry received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and Master of Arts Degree in History from Texas A&M University, and his Juris Doctorate degree from the Texas Tech University School of Law. He is certified to practice Guardianship law by the State Bar of Texas and is a Texas Mediator and Advanced Guardianship Mediator as certified by the Texas Judicial Branch Certification Commission/Texas Dispute Resolution System.
